In October, 1889, his excellent work was alluded to by the Recorder and the Grand and Petty Juries at the Quarter Sessions. This had reference to the apprehending of five men for stealing and receiving property. In recognition of the splendid service he then rendered, the Recorder presented him with £5, and the Watch Committee promoted him to the position of detective-sergeant.

He took prompt and efficient action in a case which resulted in four men being convicted of stealing and receiving four rings, and he was promoted from third class to first class Inspector.

The following year,<1903> Dymond was promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector, after being highly commended by the Watch Committee for zeal and ability displayed in a case relating to the to the theft of valuable books from the Museum.
